Sikkim


General information

 

Sikkim is a hilly Indian state and the state’s capital is Gangtok. The state is located in the border of Nepal in the North Eastern part of the country. Sikkim is the least populous state in India and it is also the second smallest state the first being Goa. The official language of the state is English. Bhutia, Nepali, Limbu and Lepcha are the other languages spoken by the inhabitants. The world’s third largest peak, Kanchenjunga is located in Sikkim. The soil type of the state suits the growth of evergreen and deciduous forests. The soil also consists of rich content of iron oxide. The sub-tropical climate of the state supports the growth of orchids, figs, laurels, bamboos, Sal trees, oaks and cashew nuts. The commonly found animal in this region is yak which is mainly reared for its milk and meat.
