Uttar Pradesh is the fifth largest state located in the North Eastern part of India. The state is also called UP. The capital of the state is Lucknow. The population of the state 166,052,859 and it is the populous sub-national entity in the world. Uttar Pradesh has played a prominent role in the history of India. Hindi and Urdu are the two official languages of the state. Agra and Fatehpur Sikri are two major cities in UP which were jointly the capital of Akbar, the great Mughal emperor of India. Yet another most important aspect of Agra is Taj Mahal, an ancient monument built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan on remembrance of his beloved wife Mumtaj. Taj Mahal is also listed as one among the Seven Wonders of the World. The Taj Mahal and the other holy cities of the state like Haridwar, Ayodhya, Varanasi and Mathura are the famous spots that develop the tourism industry of the state.
