General information

 

Raipur is the capital of Chhattisgarh, the tenth largest state in India. It is situated in the central part of India. Chhattisgarh is a new state which attained its statehood on 1st November, 2000. The name of the state is derived from 36 princely states of the olden times. Mahanadi, one of the largest rivers in India, originates from Chhattisgarh. Other major rivers are Hasdo, Rihand, Indravati, Arpa and Jonk. The state has 20378 villages out of which 19720 are inhabited villages. Being a new state, it is one of the least developed states in India. The state is rich in forest resources and it is famous through out the country for its sal forests.
